WRF is waiting for KOI regarding the participation of Indonesian rowers in the Olympics

Jakarta (medialnews) – The World Rowing Organization (WRF) is awaiting confirmation from the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) about the certainty of Mutiara Rahma Putri and Melani’s participation in the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

In a letter to PODSI (Indonesian Rowing Sports Association) signed by WRF Executive Director Matt Smith, WRF said they were waiting for confirmation by May 28, 2021.

According to a press release from PB PODSI that medialnews received on Monday, the WRF, which is based in Lausanne, Switzerland, congratulated PB PODSI because the rowers for the lightweight women’s doubles (LW2x or Lightweight Women Doubles) Indonesia, Mutiara Rahma Putri and Melani Putri, have qualified to participate in the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo from July 23 to August 8, 2021.

Mutiara from Jambi and Melani from West Java qualified for the Olympic Qualifying Round for the Asia & Oceania region or the Asia & Oceania Olympic Continental Qualification Regatta in Tokyo from May 5-7, 2021, and both returned to Indonesia on Saturday (8 / 5). The two athletes must be isolated in a hotel in Jakarta until May 13, 2021 before they can return to the national rowing training camp in Pengalengan, West Java.

Indonesia rowing team manager Budiman Setiawan, who led seven athletes and two national team coaches to the Asia Pacific qualifying rounds in Tokyo from May 5-7, 2021 to compete with teams from 17 other countries, expressed his joy at qualifying. from Mutiara and Melani.

“This is a surprise because they are very young, Mutiara is still a junior and Melani is still under 23 years old. PODSI actually wanted to send them to the U23 World Championship in Racice, Czech Republic, July 7-11, 2021, but the obstacle was that after returning from the Czech Republic, they had to undergo six days of isolation in a hotel, so that their performance, even though the Olympics were very close from July 23, 2021, ”said Budiman, who is also the vice chairman of the PODSI Executive Board.

Meanwhile, in the qualifying round for rowing in Switzerland, the Indonesian national rowing team will also participate in the Final Olympic Qualification Regatta or other qualifying events for the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo on the Rotsee, near the city of Lucerne, Switzerland, on May 15. 17, 2021.

Two male athletes, Denri Maulidzar Alghifari and Ferdiansyah, accompanied by coach Agus Budy Aji, will arrive at Zurich Airport on May 11, 2021 and will stay at the Hotel de la Paix in Lucerne, 52 kilometers from Zurich.
