medialnews, JAYAPURA – The Papua Province Regional Bureau of Education, Library and Archives has awarded the 2021 Education Prize to two teachers who were victims of the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) terrorist shooting.

They are Yonathan Renden and Oktovianus Rayo.

Papua Regional Secretary Yulian Dance Flassy said the award was a form of recognition for the government serving the intellectual development of the nation’s children inside Papua.

“Teachers play a very important role in the education of Papuan children in rural areas, so the government, through the Regional Bureau of Education, Libraries and Archives, awarded the prize for the ‘education,’ Dance Flassy said after attending National Education Day Sunday night (2/5).

Dance Flassy condemned the shooting of KKB victimized teachers in Beoga, Puncak Regency recently.

He hopes this incident will not happen again, as the impact of the teacher shooting disrupted the teaching and learning process, given the shortage of teachers teaching students inside Papua.

On the other hand, the wife of the late Oktovianus Rayo hopes that the Papua Provincial Board of Education can issue a decree appointing the wife of the deceased as a teacher to continue the noble task of teaching Papuan children in remote areas.

“I hope that the government, through the Education Office, can appoint the wives of the late Oktovianus Rayo and Yonathan Renden to become teachers,” said family representatives of the late Oktovianus Rayo and Yonathan Renden.
