Jakarta (medialnews) – The atmosphere in the National Monument (Monas) area in central Jakarta was black during the Earth Day commemoration on Saturday night.
At the monitoring site, a number of lights in the Monas area and fountains were turned off at 8:30 p.m. WIB.

Meanwhile, people are still not allowed to enter Monas as it is still in a pandemic atmosphere. Visitors who come can only access the canteen in the Monas district.
“It has been a year since I was allowed in,” said Satrio, one of Monas’s security guards.

Not only Monas, the lighting of the Arjuna Wiwaha horse statue, which is not far from the Monas area, was also turned off to commemorate Earth Day.
Previously, the DKI provincial government of Jakarta carried out the blackout of seven symbols of the city of Jakarta on Saturday evening (24/4), in commemoration of Earth Day.
The lights were switched off at several places of the Jakarta city symbol for one hour, from 8:30 p.m. WIB to 9:30 p.m. WIB.
“To commemorate World Earth Day on April 24, 2021, Jakarta will turn off the lights of the seven symbols of the city of Jakarta and other regions for one hour,” the upload statement wrote on DKI’s official Instagram account. Jakarta Provincial Government.

The seven symbols include the National Monument (Monas) and its fountain, the statue of Arjuna Wiwaha and its fountain, and the statue of General Sudirman. Next, the DKI Jakarta City Hall Building, the HI Roundabout and its Fountain, the Youth Statue and its Fountain, and the Hero Statue.
Not only that, a number of dotted lights in other parts of Jakarta will also be off for an hour, namely Jl. Raya Lieutenant Suprapto (Cempaka Putih) and Gunung Sahari, Central Jakarta, Jl. Yos Sudarso and Perintis Kemerdekaan , north of Jakarta.
Additionally, Jl. Daan Mogot and Kembangan Raya (in front of West Jakarta Mayor’s office), West Jakarta, Jl. Prapanca Raya (in front of South Jakarta Mayor’s office) and TB Simatupang, South Jakarta, Jl. Dr. Sumarno (in front of the East Jakarta Mayor’s Office) and Raden Inten, East Jakarta.
