The West Nias Regent confirmed that there was no damage from the earthquake

Medan (medialnews) – Regent of West Nias, North Sumatra Khenoki Waruwu confirmed that the 7.2 magnitude tectonic earthquake was subsequently updated to 6.7 magnitude on Friday afternoon, causing no damage to the area.

“Indeed, residents panicked when the earthquake hit, but the situation is now safe and there has been no damage,” he said, contacted from Gunungsitoli on Friday.

He also informed him that he had advised the people of West Nias not to panic and feel agitated.

However, the community is always invited to be vigilant and to immediately leave the house in case of aftershocks just to be on the alert.

“We urged the public not to panic, but to remain vigilant and the situation is now safe and under control,” said the West Nias Regent.

Previously, a magnitude 7.2 earthquake updated to 6.7 rocked the Nias Islands at around 13.33 WIB.

According to information from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (Bmkg) Gunungsitoli, the epicenter of the earthquake is 141 kilometers southwest of West Nias Regency with a depth of 19 kilometers.

The earthquake had no tsunami potential and aftershocks occurred at 16.16 WIB with a magnitude of 5.3, a location 156 kilometers southwest of West Nias with a depth of 11 kilometers.
