Rublev beat Paul in the second half after a set

Jakarta (medialnews) – Sixth seed Andrey Rublev faced a formidable challenge in his first game at the 2021 Madrid Open, when he fell behind in the first set against Tommy Paul 6-7 (5) , 6-3, 6-4 and secured their place in the third round on Tuesday.

“It’s important to win when things aren’t going well. Winning this game is very important because it makes me more confident. I’m happy to change things,” said the Russian, according to the ATP Tour report.

Rublev opened up a 4-2 lead in the first set, but Paul remained calm. After four breaks of duty, the American showed the courage to strike back and won the first set in 49 minutes gaining six consecutive points.

In the second set, Paul showed signs of exhaustion. It was not wasted by Rublev who managed to equalize. In the third set, Rublev’s play went well as he increased the intensity of his attacks.

Rublev won his first victory on Madrid clay with an ace.

The world number seven has now recorded a 9-2 victory at the ATP Masters 1000 level for the 2021 season so far. His victories include the semi-finals at the Miami Open and the finals in Monte Carlo.
