Ricciardo reminisces about his Monaco victory

Jakarta (medialnews) – Daniel Ricciardo reminisced on Wednesday of his Monaco Grand Prix victory three years ago and wants to repeat his success by letting McLaren conquer the city-state motorway circuit in southern France this weekend.

The Australian driver won the 2018 Monaco Grand Prix while defending the Red Bull team after being haunted by a nightmare in 2016 when a bad pit stop hurt his chances on the top podium there.

Ricciardo also admitted missing the race in Monaco after it was canceled last year due to the pandemic.

“Very nice, I like street circuits, you know that?” Ricciardo said in a pre-race press conference, as quoted by the official Formula 1 website.

“From the first day you drive here, you will be amazed at this place at first, but when you turn around it the track is very narrow, it flows too. It’s a pretty nice track … make a mistake, you will know the consequences.

“If you are willing to take the risk, it will pay off and you will win the biggest prize of all.

“We’ll see what happens this weekend, but I’m very happy to be back. I miss him, how good is my calculation? 730 days? Something like that,” said Ricciardo.

However, Ricciardo is wary of the slow corners that McLaren could have, as he experienced at the Spanish GP, despite finishing in P6 in Catalonia.

‘I don’t think that’s our strength.

“I think our pace has been better in the fast corners so far this year, but I don’t think it fits with this weekend’s results.

“The important thing is to feel comfortable and confident here, that’s when the lap times usually come,” said Ricciardo.

McLaren is currently in third place in the constructors’ standings and will paint their race car in a special Gulf Oil livery this weekend in Monaco. Meanwhile, Ferrari overshadowed fourth place by just five points.
