Mr. Syahrial apologizes to residents of Tanjungbalai

The KPK detained Syahrial for the next 20 days from April 24 to May 13, 2021 in Rut

medialnews, JAKARTA – Tanjungbalai Mayor M Syahrial (MS) apologized to residents of Tanjungbalai after being named a suspect with investigators from the Police Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) national Stepanus Robin Pattuju (SRP) and Maskur Husain (MH) as lawyer. The three of them have been cited as suspects in the alleged corruption case by state officials related to the handling of the mayor of Tanjungbalai case for 2020-2021.

“I apologize to the residents of Tanjungbalai (for what) I did,” Syahrial said before entering the detention car at the KPK building in Jakarta on Saturday (24/4).

He also pledged to cooperate with the legal process that caught him. “I will be cooperative and provide good and correct information to the KPK,” Syahrial said.

The KPK detained Syahrial for the next 20 days from April 24 to May 13, 2021 at the KPK Detention Center, Kavling C1 Branch, KPK Anti-Corruption Education Center Building, Jakarta. In the meantime, two other suspects were arrested in advance from April 22 to May 11, 2021.

Stepanus was detained at the KPK Detention Center for the Red and White KPK Building, Jakarta, and in Maskur at the KPK Detention Center for the Military Police Branch of the Jaya Military Command in the Guntur region, in Jakarta. During the construction of the mentioned case in October 2020, Syahrial met with the vice president of the DPR, Azis Syamsuddin, at his official residence in South Jakarta and indicated that an investigation was being carried out by the KPK in the government of Tanjungbalai city.

On Syamddin’s orders, then his aide contacted Stepanus to come to his official residence. Syamsuddin immediately introduced Syahrial to Stepanus. During the meeting, Syahrial shared the problems with the investigation into alleged corruption in the Tanjungbalai city government that the KPK is currently conducting in order not to proceed to the investigation stage and asked Stepanus to help him so that the KPK does not follow up on the problem of the investigation.

After the meeting, Stepanus introduced Maskur over the phone to Syahrial to help him solve his problem. Stepanus and Maskur have agreed to engage with Syahrial regarding the investigation of alleged corruption in the Tanjungbalai city government not to be followed by the KPK by preparing Rp 1.5 billion.

Syahrial accepted Stepanus and Maskur’s request by transferring money in stages 59 times through a bank account owned by Riefka Amalia, Stepanus’ friend. Syahrial also gave money to Stepanus up to 1.3 billion rupees in total that Stepanus had received.

Money that Stepanus had received from Syahrial was then given to Maskur in the amount of Rp. 325 million and Rp. 200 million. In addition, Maskur is also believed to have received money from other parties of around Rs 200 million, while Stepanus from October 2020 to April 2021 is also believed to have received money from other parties through the transfer of Riefka’s bank account in the amount of Rs 438 million.
