Marquez thinks the air gate saved him from the accident in Jerez

Jakarta (medialnews) – Eight-time World Champion Marc Marquez feels lucky to have been saved by air fence in a terrible accident during the third free practice of the Spanish Grand Prix at the Jerez-Angel Nieto Circuit, Saturday.

The Repsol Honda team driver fell in Turn 7 after losing grip from his front tire while driving at 180 km / h.

Marquez tumbled into the gravel pit and even floated over the crash barrier with the air damper. He recalled falling on the same track in last season’s opener that injured his humerus and forced him to miss nine months of racing.

Fortunately, the number 93 racer was able to get up and make his way to safety before returning to the garage and completing the fourth practice session and finishing P14 in the qualifying lap.

“A very fast and hard crash in Turn 7, we thought the first crash of the season would come, but I might have picked one of the worst corners to find it,” said Marquez on the team’s official website.

“When you push for a quick lap, you don’t think about the risk and after being conservative yesterday, today was all about attacking.

“The collision with the fence air happened at a very high speed and thanks to the fence air I am still there,” he said.

Marquez visited the medical center to check up and was found fit to continue the race.

“This accident affected my qualifying, so I chose the soft front tire to be safer, but it was the wrong choice because the limit was up front during qualifying.

“It’s a shame because I feel strong and today is the first day I started to feel this bike.”

Marquez’s teammate Pol Espargaro was also the victim of Turn 7 when he fell in the last minute of FP4. He will start the race from P13.
