Karatsev lost to Medvedev’s third seed in Rome

It was difficult against Medvedev because he had a strong serve

Jakarta (medialnews) – Russian Aslan Karatsev delivered another stunning performance when he defeated third seed Daniil Medvedev, a fellow countryman in the second round of the Italian Open on Wednesday night Rome time.

In one hour and 18 minutes, Karatsev took two straight sets 6-2, 6-4 and sealed his meeting with Reilly Opelka in the last 16.

“I am very happy. It was a very difficult game. Against Medvedev it was difficult because he had a strong serve. It was difficult to return his shots, but I did well,” said Karatsev as quoted by the official ATP. Tour website.

The two players will face each other for the first time on clay in Rome, but the pair played together as a team in the ATP Cup earlier this year. At this point, Karatsev’s appearance became a question and even got a shift to doubles.

But so far the game has changed a lot, including a win over Andrey Rublev, who is also his countryman. But his most shocking victory came when he beat world number one Novak Djokovic in Belgrade last week.

On the other hand, Medvedev, who is currently number two in the world, has yet to find his best rhythm on clay.

Last week, he was eliminated in the early rounds of the Madrid Open and is now back in Rome. Before losing to Karatsev, Medvedev had a perfect 6-0 record against his countrymen since the beginning of 2019.
