Japan has tightened protocols for the arrival of Olympic and Paralympic teams

Jakarta (medialnews) – The Japanese government will ask Olympic and Paralympic athletes in Tokyo and personnel from abroad to undergo COVID-19 tests twice in 96 hours before departure from their respective countries, Kyodo news agency reported on Sunday.

Last December, the Japanese government made it mandatory for foreign visitors to take one COVID-19 test within 72 hours of departure. The latest demands were made to tighten health checks during the immigration process.

Olympic athletes and personnel are also tested at the airport upon arrival in Japan.

This issue will be discussed Wednesday (4/28) by the Tokyo Olympics panel responsible for the coronavirus in an online meeting with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), local organizers and the governments. from Tokyo and Japan.

The second edition of the COVID-19 guide to the Tokyo Olympics is scheduled for Wednesday and Friday.

The governing body has established a basic policy for conducting COVID-19 tests for athletes on a daily basis after their arrival in Japan.

Nevertheless, the organizers still allow them to participate in training or competitions during the 14-day quarantine period, provided that they are limited to athlete’s villages, training locations and competition locations.

Meanwhile, the IOC, the national Olympic committee, international sports federations and the media are tested daily for the first three days in Japan.

They will then undergo a less frequent test, say every four or seven days, depending on their level of contact with the athlete.

By testing and limiting their contact with the public, it is hoped that they will be able to work with their respective functions during their first quarantine period.
