Dutch team at EURO 2020, Frank de Boer retains 38-year-old

medialnews, JAKARTA – Dutch national team coach Frank de Boer has announced the final selection of 26 players for the EURO 2020 final on Wednesday (26/5).

De Boer knocked out Tottenham Hotspur forward Steven Bergwijn.

The lack of playing minutes at Tottenham in recent months seems to have left Bergwijn sidelined.

De Boer has chosen to give PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo, who has yet to make his Dutch national team debut.

“As a coach, it is not a difficult decision,” he said, as quoted by Reuters.

“But personally, that sort of thing is often a difficult decision,” he said.

Aging goalkeeper Marten Stekelenburg, who made it to the 2010 World Cup final but only recently returned to Ajax after years of reserve at Everton, has also been retained by De Boer to his squad.

The decision was quite surprising, as De Boer dismissed AZ Alkmaar goalkeeper Marco Bizot from his side.
