DKI Jakarta predicts peak in COVID-19 cases

Jakarta (medialnews) – DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has instructed all his staff to anticipate all possibilities related to
the potential for increased rate of active COVID-19 cases before and after Eid.

This is done by preparing various things, such as controlling the number of visitors to various markets in Jakarta, supervising office areas and ensuring religious activities during Ramadjan to the implementation of Eid prayers according to the health protocols.

“We are considering allowing Eid prayers to be held in open areas, as it is easy to adjust the distance. The regulations will be in line with the direction of the DKI regional secretary’s circular,” Anies said. in Jakarta, Monday.

“If conditions allow, we hope to be able to maintain health protocols so that our efforts can run smoothly,” he said.

Prior to Idul Fitri 1442 Hijriah, the DKI provincial government of Jakarta extended the application of restrictions on micro-community activities (PPKM) given the active cases of COVID-19 in Jakarta over the past two weeks, but at a level that can still be overcome.

DKI Jakarta Provincial Government extends the Micro PPKM period until May 17, 2021 by Decree of the Governor of DKI Jakarta Province number 558 of 2021 regarding the extension of Micro PPKM and DKI Jakarta Provincial Governor Instruction number 27 of 2021 regarding the Extension of Micro PPKM to RT Level, which is performed to anticipate a potential peak in active cases before and after Eid.

“We are doing all of this so that the potential increase in cases before Eid can be minimized,” Anies said.

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Jakarta on Monday was 411,157 cases after an additional 757 positive cases.

Out of the number of positive cases, the total number of people declared cured was 397,349 with a cure rate of 96.6%. Meanwhile, the total number of people who died from COVID-19 was 6,788 people or the percentage of the death rate was 1.7%.

The “positivity rate” or percentage of positive cases last week in Jakarta was 8.7 percent. During this time, the percentage of total positive cases was 11%. WHO sets the standard for the percentage of positive cases of up to five percent.
