Dejan Antonic is satisfied that PSS Sleman is third in the Menpora Cup

Solo (medialnews) – PSS Sleman head coach Dejan Antonic said he was satisfied with the performance of his team taking third place in the 2021 Menpora Cup pre-season tournament.

PSS won the battle for third place with a score of 2-1 against PSM Makassar, even though they had to finish the match on Saturday with only 10 players at Manahan Stadium, Solo, Central Java.

On their way to Irfan Jaya’s penalty in the 30th minute, PSS had to continue the game with 10 players because of the red card that Fandhy Imbiri received eight minutes later.

That advantage was lost by Sutanto’s goal in the 59th minute, but five minutes later Irkham Mila managed to put PSS back on the lead and defend to the end.

Antonic praised the fighting power of the Javanese Super Eagle squad, who were able to resist and even score the winning goal when it was 10 to 11.

“I have to thank all the players, and the elements in this team including the supporters. A very important result for us. Overall, it was a difficult game because we were ahead and got a red card,” said Dejan Antonic.

Dejan believes the experience in the Menpora Cup will be a valuable lesson for his team in preparation for the League 1 competition scheduled to start on July 3.

“We are running this tournament, with satisfying results. We will return to Sleman to enjoy this performance,” said Dejan after the match.

PSM mental hit

Meanwhile, PSM Makassar coach Syamsyuddin Batolla admitted that the penalty penalty hit the players mentally, especially as the squad was not bolstered by foreign players in this tournament.

“We still rely on local material players. We give young players the chance, but mentally they have yet to be addressed,” said Syamsyuddin.

PSM defender Hasim Kipuw found the defeat against PSS a valuable lesson, especially for young players who need to increase their flying hours.

“We have followed the coach’s instructions, but the effort is still lacking and we have to work hard again, especially the young players who still need a lot of experience,” he said.
