Contract expires, Mandzukic leaves AC Milan

Jakarta (medialnews) – Croatia striker Mario Mandzukic confirmed on Monday that he will leave AC Milan at the end of his six-month contract.

The 35-year-old Juventus and Bayern Munich player joined the club in January as a replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but only made 11 appearances due to injury and failure to score issues.

“It’s great to play for AC Milan,” Mandzukic said in a post on his Instagram account. “I thank the club management for giving me this opportunity, the coaching staff for their dedicated work and my teammates who are not only an amazing player but also a great group of people.”

“I am happy that we have managed to bring this great club back to the Champions League and I wish everyone at this club the best for the future.”

Milan, who have won the Europa League seven times, have confirmed they will return to the Champions League after a seven-year hiatus after finishing second in the Serie A table this season.

Mandzukic retired from international football when Croatia lost the 2018 World Cup final. He left Juventus and joined the Al-Duhail club in 2019, but later left the Qatari squad by mutual consent last July.

At Milan, he signed a six-month contract with an option for an additional season and made headlines in March when he returned a month of his salary after missing a game due to injury.
