medialnews – JAKARTA. The growth of e-commerce, especially during the pandemic, has become a particular dynamic for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) selling in the market. Besides being able to expand the reach of products through digital channels, local MSMEs can also increase their turnover.

The results of the Katadata Insight Center (KIC) survey placed Shopee as the largest revenue-generating platform that has helped micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) survive during the pandemic. Additionally, Shopee is also the platform of choice for MSMEs as it is superior in terms of promotion programs to transaction security factors.

The Katadata Insight Center (KIC) survey publication titled “2021 MSME Study Report: The Role of the Market for MSMEs,” said 57% of MSMEs responded to Shopee as the platform that generated the greatest revenue or sales value. In second position, Tokopedia 28%, Lazada 6%, Bukalapak 3%, Blibli 2% and 3% from other markets.

The study found that the Covid-19 pandemic significantly affected the turnover of offline businesses and prompted business people to open online businesses. “Some commercial players have even shut down their offline activities, moved to online sales or at least combined offline and online,” said Vivi Zabkie, survey manager for Katadata Insight Center (KIC), in her communicated.

The large number of promotional programs offered by platforms such as Shopee, allows MSMEs to feel the various benefits of selling in the market. Promotional programs, such as free shipping, cash backs and discounts, have had an impact on increasing MSME sales.

As many as 89% of MSME Shopee users admitted that they really feel the impact of the various promotional programs on offer. Followed by 45% Tokopedia MSME users with various promotional programs, 17% MSME Lazada users, 12% MSME Blibli users, and 11% Bukalapak users.

Meanwhile, Shopee also excels at helping to market products or stores well. Almost 85% of MSMEs using Shopee have benefited, followed by 53% of MSMEs using Tokopedia, 33% of MSMEs using Lazada, 17% of MSMEs using Bukalapak and 12% of MSMEs using Blibli.

On the security side, this research concludes that the marketplace is viewed as safe for transactions (69%) and easy to use or user-friendly (66%). MSMEs report feeling safe doing business through digital platforms.

Shopee is also known to outperform other markets in terms of security. This is reflected in the results of a survey of respondents of each user of the MSME platform which showed a high sense of security, especially for the two largest markets namely Shopee 92% and Tokopedia 72%, followed by Bukalapak 35%, Lazada 36% and Blibli 40%.

“Digital platforms are responding to consumer demands during the pandemic forcing them not to travel much, to stay at home and to keep their distance. MSMEs are aware of the trend to shift consumers towards digital purchases. So the market has finally become a reliable place to bring MSMEs and consumers together, ”said Vivi.

Vivi further explained that this survey was conducted among 392 MSMEs in a number of cities in Indonesia, namely Jabodetabek, Bandung, Semarang, Surabaya, Yogyakarta and Medan between March 24 and April 9, 2021.
