At Prince Philip’s funeral, the timing of British sports matches has shifted

Tribute to the funeral ceremony of His Excellency Prince Philip

Jakarta (medialnews) – A number of sporting events in Britain, such as horse racing, football and rugby, will undergo a schedule change as a “mark of respect” and to avoid clashing with the late Prince Philip’s funeral on Saturday (17/4 ).

The Scottish Grand National’s “jump race” will be held on Sunday, while 32 English Football League games will be removed from the scheduled 1400 GMT kick-off, AFP said Monday.

Prince Philip’s funeral begins at 2:00 PM GMT, during which time there will be a minute of national silence.

“As a sign of respect for the funeral ceremony of His Excellency Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, it has been agreed that no races will be held in Great Britain on Saturday, April 17 between 2:45 PM and 4:15 PM”. said a statement from the British horse racing authority BHA.

“Therefore, the timetable for the Scottish Grand National in Ayr and the Spring Trials in Newbury is now being moved from Saturday April 17 to Sunday April 18 at noon.”

Meanwhile, the English league EFL operator said they would discuss with clubs to determine when matches can be played.

In the Premier League, there has been some debate about the removal of Wolverhampton Wanderers against the visit to Sheffield United scheduled for 2pm GMT.

In cricket, nine County Championship matches scheduled for Saturday between 13:50 and 15:10 GMT will be suspended.

The ECB cricket bureau in England and Wales has also asked all recreational cricket clubs to do the same.

In Scotland, six games in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup are scheduled around the time of the funeral, including the match between Rangers and reigning champions Celtic at 3pm GMT.

The Scottish Football Association said it had spoken to stakeholders about the match.

The FA Cup semi-final between Chelsea and Manchester City at Wembley is scheduled for 4.30pm GMT.

The rugby league has also adjusted the kick-off times for their four matches on Saturday so that it does not clash with the funeral schedule.
