Asnawi Mangkualam: Play in many good positions for a career

Jakarta (medialnews) – Ansan Greeners club player Asnawi Mangkualam Bahar said the opportunity to play in many positions would be good for his career as a professional footballer.

“It will be easier to find a good club,” Asnawi said in an interview with PSSI, which was followed on Monday (10/5) evening in Jakarta.

However, the 21-year-old stressed that becoming a multi-sector player is not easy.

Constant adjustment is necessary so that progress in the field does not disappoint.

Asnawi himself is an example of an Indonesian player who can play in more than one position.

The footballer who helped Indonesia win the 2019 AFF Cup U-22 started his career as a midfielder.

In 2018, however, the then U-19 national coach Indra Sjafri changed Asnawi’s position to right back.

Asnawi turned out to be very good in that position. Asnawi’s role as a right-back also impressed Indonesian national team manager Shin Tae-yong, recommending him to move to the Ansan Greeners club.

After arriving at Ansan Greeners in February 2021, Asnawi was initially positioned as a right back.

After that, Ansan Greeners coach Kim Gil-sik rearranged Asnawi’s duties on the field by pushing him forward to become a winger and wing midfielder on the right.

“I keep adjusting to new positions. I need to know when to go up, when to descend. And when to dribble, when to pass. It can’t be instantaneous,” said Asnawi.

As of Monday (10/5), Asnawi Mangkualam had already strengthened Ansan Greeners five times in K-League 2, before eventually stepping aside due to an injury.

Of the five games, Asnawi played twice as a right-wing midfielder and three times as a right-wing forward. So far, the football player from Makassar has registered one in the competition help out.

Asnawi appeared as a right back in South Korea only once when he played against Yangpyeong FC in the South Korean FA Cup.
