3×3 Indonesian women struggled to face America in Olympic qualifying


Jakarta (medialnews) – The Indonesian national 3×3 women’s basketball team was forced to compete against the United States, losing 7-21 in the first game of Pool A Qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in Graz, Austria, Thursday.

Indonesia vs America in Pool A Putri is also the opening match for the first session of the second day of qualifying for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in Graz, which starts around 4pm WIB.

The difference in strength was unmistakably visible and the Americans managed to take a 4-0 lead in the first 30 seconds.

Indonesia could only answer through Ayu Sriartha’s lay-up, who had a chance to narrow the gap from 1-7, before gaining momentum from Nathania Orville’s two-point play that brought the score to 4-9.

Unfortunately, the Americans then began to rely on shots from off the bow, scoring three in a row to make the advantage 19-5 wide.

Lea Kahol and Ayu had time to extend Indonesia’s breath to one point, unfortunately Ayu then committed a foul that resulted in free throws for America.

Alisha Gray scored a free throw to win the Americans 21-7 with four minutes and seven seconds to go.

Indonesia has one other match on the second day of qualifying for these Olympics, which is against another strong team, Germany, in the second match of the second session on Thursday at around 6:30 pm WIB.

With Perbasi’s official release on Thursday morning, 3×3 women’s national coach July Wong had said his players wouldn’t be scared, even if they were up against major powers like America and Germany.
