RACER Fernando Alonso believes his performance at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone Circuit last weekend can boost the confidence of his Aston Martin team, which is still struggling to find its best performance in the first half of the season.

According to Alonso, the double points he and Lance Stroll scored at the team’s home race could give the squad a boost heading into the next race on the 2024 season calendar.

“It’s a success to run the race without problems. Of course (it was an encouragement for the team), because both cars managed to score points,” Alonso said on Wednesday, as quoted by the official Formula 1 website.

“It’s not easy because there are many opportunities to not finish (DNF), crashes, big mistakes in tyre choice and so on,” he continued.

Alonso scored 4 points by finishing eighth in the race held on Sunday (7/7). Meanwhile, his teammate Lance Stroll is in seventh place with 6 points.

Alonso stressed how the British GP was a turning point for the team after two challenging weekends in Spain and Austria.

The two-time world champion continued that the team’s positive trend had been visible since the first day of the British GP, where he and Stroll closed in on the top time record during practice.

After some of the ups and downs Aston Martin has experienced throughout the season so far, Alonso hopes the team will better understand their technical package.

He stressed this so that the team can enter the next races in Hungary and Belgium with a sense of optimism.

“I think we understand some of the mistakes we may have made in Barcelona and Austria,” Alonso said.

“We regrouped after Austria and we wanted to do better at our home Grand Prix, in front of our staff, at our factory here (England). So I’m happy with seventh and eighth place for the team. “This is a good boost for Hungary and Spa,” he added.

Meanwhile, this season’s Formula 1 series will take place from July 19 to 21 at the Hungaroring Circuit, Hungary. (Ant/P-5)
