Mount Lewotobi Male erupts again, throwing 1,000 meters of volcanic ash: Okezone News

JAKARTA Mount Lewotobi Men erupted again, Thursday (7-11-2024), at 10:46 WITA. The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) reported that the volcano ejected volcanic ash as high as 1,000 meters above the summit.

Lewotobi Laki volcano is known to be located in East Flores Regency/City, East Nusa Tenggara, with a geographical location at latitude -8.5389°N, longitude 122.7682°E and has an elevation of 1584 meters above sea level.

The eruption of Mount Lewotobi Male occurred on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at 10:36 WITA. The height of the eruption column was observed to be ± 1000 m above the peak (± 2584 m above sea level)”, volcano observation post officer Herman S Mboro said in his statement.

Herman reported that the ash column was observed to be gray to the west and of great intensity. At the time of writing, the eruption was still in progress.

Meanwhile, Herman asked the community around Mount Lewotobi Laki and visitors/tourists not to carry out any activities within a radius of 2 km from the eruption centre of Mount Lewotobi Laki and a sector of 3 km in the north-northeast direction and 5 km in the direction of the Eastern Sea.

“The public should be calm and follow the instructions of the regional government and not believe in rumours whose source is unclear,” he urged.

Herman also asked the community around Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki to be aware of the potential for flooding of rainwater into rivers originating at the summit of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki during heavy rainfall.

“People affected by the Mount Lewotobi ashfall, men, wear masks or face coverings to avoid the respiratory hazards of volcanic ash,” he concluded.
