COACH of the Indonesian national swimming team, Albert C. Susanto, said that two of Indonesia’s top swimming athletes, Joe Aditya W Kurniawan and Azzahra Permatahani, are currently consolidating their strategy to face the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

“Currently, they (Joe and Azzahra) are consolidating their race strategy. So we are doing a lot of race pace,” Albert said while supervising the training of athletes at the Aquatic Stadium, Gelora Bung Karno Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday (Sept 10/7).

He said this was related to Indonesian water sports athletes’ preparations for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

In addition to race pace, he said, the two athletes also underwent a combination of hard and light training this week.

“Also, that’s the race pace strategy that we’ll prioritize next week,” he added.

Albert explained that he was specifically projected for Joe for the Olympics, so the idea was for him to break the national record at the world’s highest sporting competition in Paris.

During the two-month training camp in the United States (US), Joe also showed quite a good improvement over time.

Meanwhile, Azzahra is said to be preparing for the 2024 Aceh-North Sumatra National Sports Week (PON).

However, since Azzhara was also suddenly selected from World Aquatics to appear at the Olympics, she had to undergo quite drastic training.

“So there are indeed changes that are quite risky for the Olympics because the goal of winning is quite difficult,” he said.

Joe and Azzahra were declared qualified to participate in the 2024 Paris Olympics through the universality quota route. The qualification of the two athletes expands the list of Indonesian athletes who have qualified for Paris to 29 athletes. (Mier/Z-1)
