Democratic Party prepares candidates for regional elections in six provinces, here is the list

TEMPO.CO, JakartaDemocratic Party officially announced the nomination of six pairs of candidates for governor and vice-governor in six provinces. The six provinces, Central Sulawesi, West Nusa Tenggara, Riau, North Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi and East Java, will simultaneously participate in regional main elections or regional elections in November 2024.

“I am giving letters of recommendation to six pairs of candidates in preparation for participating in the 2024 simultaneous regional elections,” Democratic Party Chairman Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono alias AHY said at the Democratic Party Central Leadership Council (DPP) office, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, July 10, 2024.

The Democratic Party nominates former Morowali regent and DPR member Anwar Hafid and Palu deputy mayor Reni Arniwaty Lamadjido as candidate pairs for governor and deputy in Southeast Sulawesi. Then there is the incumbent Zulkifliemansyah, governor of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), who will nominate again with Suhaili Fadhil Thohir as his deputy.

In addition, the names of DPR members Muhammad Nasir and Muhammad Wardan were recommended as candidates for governor and vice-governor of Riau. In North Sulawesi, Elly Engelbert Lasut was nominated as a candidate for governor and Michaela Elsiana Paruntu as her deputy.

The Democratic Party also nominated Lukman Abunawas as a candidate for the governorship of Southeast Sulawesi and Laode Ida as his deputy. Finally, there are the names of former Minister of Social Affairs and Governor of East Java Khofifah Indar Parawansa and Emil Elestianto Dardak as his deputies.


Khofifah was present at the event to present the names of candidates who would compete in the simultaneous regional elections. “For the umpteenth time, Emil and I would like to express our gratitude for all the support, camaraderie and guidance we received from the Democratic Party five years ago,” Khofifah said when they met at the same venue.

Khofifah’s name is running alongside his deputy Emil Dardak in the East Java regional elections. This incumbent duo has received support from several Advanced Indonesia Coalition or KIM parties. These include the Golkar Party, the National Mandate Party (PAN), the Democratic Party and the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI). This party joined the KIM presidential election yesterday, which saw Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka win.
