Anies Baswedan ready to run for Jakarta gubernatorial election: Bismillah, ready to continue the second period

TEMPO.CO, JakartaAnies Baswedan eventually declared his willingness to participate in the gubernatorial elections Governmental elections in Jakarta 2024. Anies' statement was made after the Regional Leadership Council CLA DKI Jakarta officially wore it for the Jakarta Pilkada.

The DKI governor for the period 2017-2022 said he had received the confidence from PKB to run for the DKI Pilkada. “Therefore, we say bismillah, we are preparing to advance to the second period,” he said in Pondok Indah, South Jakarta, quoted from the video statement sent by the Anies team on Friday, June 14, 2024.

According to Anies, he is currently confident about running for the DKI Jakarta regional elections, having previously considered it after the 2024 presidential elections. He claims that there is a demand from the people of Jakarta to run for office again to state what the reason is.

Anies claims that his house is often visited by Jakarta residents complaining about various problems. “People come to us almost every day. “Almost every day it comes from different places and everyone comes, the weak and the little ones,” Anies said.

Anies said residents who visited his home included residents of small villages, poor residents, workers, teachers and local activists. However, he did not reveal details about the issues they raised. “I'm not good at telling the details of the complaint,” he said.

Essentially, Anies said, they came to his home to express their wishes and aspirations. He said this request was the factor that pushed him to become a candidate for the governorship of Jakarta.

“So that's what I call the term pulling factor. An attractive factor to return to Jakarta. “That's why I finally said: I discussed it with many parties. Then an invitation came from the party, bismillah, I'm going to do it,” said Anies.

It is known that Anies was previously a presidential candidate who contested the 2024 presidential election along with PKB general chairman Muhaimin Iskandar, alias Cak Imin. They were supported by the Change Coalition consisting of the PKB, the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) and the NasDem Party.

The Anies-Muhaimin duet received 40,971,906 votes or 24.9 percent. They lost their vote to the Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka pair, who received 96,214,691 votes or 58.6 percent.
