Two coordinating ministers in the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet have different views on tackling perpetrators of online gambling. Coordinating Minister of Economy Airlangga Hartarto indicated that the government would not provide assistance to people who have fallen into poverty due to online gambling.

“Online gambling players do not receive any facilities from the government. “It is different from online motorcycle taxis,” Airlangga said at its office in Jakarta on Friday (14/6).

Earlier, Coordinating Minister of Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy encouraged the Ministry of Social Affairs to include victims of online gambling in the Integrated Social Welfare Database (DTKS). For example, online gamblers can receive support from the government through social assistance.

He conveyed this proposal to reporters at the presidential palace on Wednesday (13/6). According to Muhadjir, online gamblers are entitled to government support. The reason is that many gamblers have ended up in poverty and it is the government's responsibility to help.

“We have advocated extensively for victims of online gambling, including those among DTKS social assistance recipients,” he said. (Z-11)
